Board elects officers, adopts agenda and approves two extended unpaid leaves

MORIARTY-EDGEWOOD — The Moriarty-Edgewood School Board reorganized leadership and approved several routine and personnel items at its Jan. 21 regular meeting.
Under board policy the membership elected a president, vice president and secretary at the first regular meeting in January. Nominations were made from the floor and the board conducted roll-call votes. The transcript records affirmative roll-call responses from Jeff Laing, Lindsay Donner, Aler Chavis, Denny Young and Linda Hudson for the officer elections.
The board also adopted the Jan. 21 agenda on Superintendent Biano's recommendation by voice vote.
In business and personnel actions, the board approved consent agenda finance items 1–3 on a motion and voice vote. Administrators noted the district audit has been approved by the state but remains on the state reviewer's desk for final processing.
Under Personnel, the board considered two requests for leave without pay from custodial employees who exhausted FMLA and require additional time for ongoing medical treatment. Dr. Buckley and Superintendent Biano presented the requests and recommended approval. Each leave was approved through June 30, 2025; the district said positions will be held and temporary coverage arranged.
The meeting closed with routine support-services reports, a brief maintenance note thanking staff who replaced a playground slide in Edgewood, and a notice that no citizens signed up for public comment. The board adjourned at 7:07 p.m.
