The council adopted Resolution No. 16-22 accepting the plans, specifications, engineer’s estimate and environmental assessment for the Community Development Block Grant-funded water meter improvement project, closing out the 2020 CDBG activities. The resolution was moved, seconded and carried by unanimous voice vote.
The council amended and approved an encroachment permit for the Spring Fling festival, adopting a full 38-hour closure of the mapped portion of Main Street and waiving sections of the municipal code to allow sale and consumption of alcohol within the event boundaries during the closure. Staff and organizers had discussed safety measures, including maintaining a fire lane and overnight security arrangements.
Council also approved a three-year contract for information technology management services with Network One, with the contract to begin May 1, 2024. Staff said the monthly cost is about $6,300 and that a 30-day termination clause is included.
For fire services, the council authorized the Weed Volunteer Fire Department to submit a CalFire Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant application (50/50 match; maximum $20,000) for equipment such as radios, with the city budgeting roughly $10,000 toward the local match. The council also approved releasing a request for proposals to build a Type 3 fire apparatus; staff described a typical Type 3 as a pumper with about a 500-gallon tank and roughly 500 GPM capability and said final funding sources would include sale of retired equipment and potential grants.
