Glendora Unified honors employees of the year; student board member recaps spring highlights

The Glendora Unified School District Board of Education opened its May 13 meeting by recognizing staff across the district for the 2023–24 school year and celebrating school achievements.

Dr. Osborne introduced the district’s rookies of the year and employees of the year, asking the audience to join the board in congratulating Samantha Lezma (classified rookie of the year), JC Rosas (certificated rookie of the year), Leticia Yamas (classified employee of the year, nutrition services), Amy Hogan (teacher of the year) and Yumi Kang (administrator of the year). Board members invited recipients and their guests forward for photographs and applause.

President Clifford also recognized Jerry Lellan, Glendora High School athletic director and baseball coach, for a regional athletic‑director honor, and the board accepted a certificate presented on behalf of Congresswoman Judy Chu honoring Samberg Middle School’s selection as a California Distinguished School. A staff member from the congresswoman’s office, Zayn, said the office was “so pleased to be able to present the Glendora Unified School District as well as the faculty and staff at Samberg Middle School” with certificates of congratulations.

Student Board Member Aiden delivered the student report, summarizing teacher and staff appreciation week activities, elementary field trips, middle‑ and high‑school music and band festival performances, and athletic postseason qualifiers. Aiden listed upcoming events for seniors, including senior awards and graduation logistics, and thanked PTA and ASB for support. Board members thanked the student representatives for their service and urged students to finish the school year strong.

The meeting’s public comment period produced no speakers.

The board moved on to the evening’s business after the recognitions and student report; the meeting adjourned at 8:53 p.m.
