Laguna Niguel council reviews legislative platform for 2026 session and makes no changes

Assistant to the City Manager Okconor reviewed the city’s legislative platform, noting it was first adopted in February 2019 and most recently revised July 15, 2025. Okconor said the platform’s guiding principles include preserving local control, fiscal responsibility, economic development and public safety, and that the policy statements cover issues such as local revenue, homelessness, public safety, utilities and the environment.
Staff recommended that the council provide direction on any changes; Council Member Genoway said the platform worked well and expressed satisfaction with the existing positions. With no proposed changes, staff’s recommendation to "receive and file" the report stood and the council did not modify the platform during the March 3 meeting.
What happens next: the platform will continue to guide staff communications with legislators and policymakers during the 2026 state legislative session.
