Board approves use variance for esthetician and massage office at 39 Simon Street

Vice Chair Josh Neely said the Zoning Board of Adjustment approved a use variance March 10 that will allow a massage therapist and esthetician office to operate at 39 Simon Street, Unit 15.
The applicant, Kayla Jerry, told the board she and her staff have operated in Nashua for five years and sought the move after losing a prior lease. "We're appointment only," Jerry said. "We have about five to six girls there. They all work different schedules, so we're never there at the same time." She said the business draws an existing local clientele and that the complex’s other tenants had no concerns.
A written letter of support from Kelly Karan, trustee and owner of the unit at 39 Simon St., was read into the record. Karan said the operation would be low-impact, consistent with other businesses at North Crest, and would not create additional traffic, noise or parking pressure.
Board members asked no substantive follow-up questions. Member (transcript: Mr. Bush) moved to approve the variance, noting the application met the board’s five statutory criteria, including that the proposed use would not alter neighborhood character and that a reasonable hardship existed given changes in how those properties are used. The motion was seconded and passed 5–0. Vice Chair Neely reminded the applicant there is a 30-day window to file an appeal.
The applicant may now proceed with the project unless an appeal is filed within the required period.
