Fruit Heights City Council voted on May 5 to adopt Ordinance 2026-03, updating local fire and fireworks regulations to match recently adopted mapping and to establish a seasonal fireworks ban in designated areas east of Highway 89.
Staff explained the ordinance clarifies seasonal open-burn prohibitions and fireworks restrictions (June 1'Oct. 15 in designated areas) while allowing approved agricultural burns and properly protected fire pits or cooking devices. Permits for agricultural or larger open burns are processed through the Farmington Fire Marshall, the staff presentation said.
During the public hearing a resident asked whether fireworks would remain permitted on the west side of Highway 89; staff confirmed the seasonal ban applies to the east side in the mapped area. Council discussed minor wording changes and confirmed the ordinance will include the map as an appendix.
A motion to adopt Ordinance 2026-03 carried on a roll-call vote recorded by council, and the ordinance was adopted.
The ordinance assigns enforcement to the local fire service and clarifies individual responsibility for fires that create hazards.
