The Pasco County Board of County Commissioners unanimously confirmed Joanna Cheshire as assistant county administrator, public safety, on May 5 after the county administrator described a multi-stage vetting and interview process that included senior leaders and union representation.
The administrator explained that the process involved interviews, peer debriefs and meetings across the public safety branch to ensure cultural fit and operational alignment. "After consulting with these trusted advisers, I am confident that Miss Cheshire best embodies the leadership competencies and needs for this post," the administrator said.
Cheshire, speaking after the vote, thanked the board and pledged to be "a steady, accountable partner, aligning our teams, being a good steward of resources, and delivering results that the community can actually see and feel." Commissioners complimented her selection and noted the role's importance in coordinating first responders, jail services and related public-safety operations.
The board took no roll-call ballot; commissioners moved, seconded and approved the confirmation by voice vote with Commissioner Starky excused.
