The Lawrence City Ordinance & Government Relations Committee on April 28 advanced a series of permits, parking requests and community-event items to the full council or to the police department for further review.
Five Stars Express: The committee considered a renewal of Five Stars Express' livery license after company representative Mildred Diaz said the building owner recently paid the overdue property taxes but the city tax stamp had not yet cleared. Officer Sodto of the Lawrence Police Department presented the company's packet and the committee voted to send the renewal to the full City Council with the condition that required documentation be provided once the tax-stamp clears.
Events and resource fairs: UnitedHealthcare Community Plan sought approval for a June 11 resource fair at Campan Common Park. A UnitedHealthcare representative described plans for about 10—5 vendors, light beverages and outreach to plan members; the committee recommended sending the permit request to the full council with a favorable recommendation. Pastor Ingri Ortiz similarly requested park space for two youth-focused events on May 16 and June 5; the committee recommended those requests to the full council.
Parking and accessibility requests: The committee voted to forward multiple parking requests to the police department for review, including a no-parking petition on Pill Street related to blocked driveway access (submitted by Clarissa Krauss), a 15-minute parking request for 67 Jackson Street, and several handicap or resident-parking requests on King Street, West Street and Warn Street.
Other actions: The committee tabled a resolution directing a review of Chapter 9.25 of the municipal code and tabled a National Grid utility-pole installation request pending further contact. A gold-dealer license renewal was also tabled.
What happens next: Items forwarded to the police will be reviewed and the police department will return recommendations to the committee or council; items sent to the full City Council will be placed on the council agenda for final action.
