"With the approved public art funding of $12,500, the Arts and Culture Commission has discussed an interest in utilizing a call for art to solicit proposals for a movable and interactive art piece," Ethan, a city staff member, told commissioners.
Staff said a draft call for art is included in the meeting packet and asked commissioners for feedback, which staff will incorporate into the final call along with comments from city departments. The artist review team will review proposals and recommend selections to City Council.
Commissioners asked whether the commission should set firm completion deadlines; staff said the implementation date is tentative (the draft timeline currently lists fall 2026) and that final completion targets will depend on project progress and budget timing. Commissioners noted previous projects have occasionally required moving into the next calendar year.
Next steps: staff will incorporate commissioner feedback into the draft call for art, coordinate departmental review, and then release the call for proposals—potentially earlier than the current June deadline if timing allows.
