Wichita County Commissioner’s Court on March 17 approved several routine financial and procurement items, including selection of a records‑destruction vendor for about 400 boxes, a Centrio fiber installation quote totaling $7,248, and the verification and dispersal of regular bills and payroll.
Commissioners moved the consent agenda with two changes: item 7 (an Enterprise interim interest matter) was removed for further coordination, and minutes were amended to reflect that certain watercolors are on loan rather than donated. Commissioner Vincan moved to approve the consent agenda as amended; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
On a separate motion to approve regular bills and authorize payroll dispersal, Commissioner Beum moved and Commissioner Mer seconded; the court approved the motion with four votes in favor, zero votes opposed and one abstention (Commissioner Finan).
For document destruction (a project covering JP and Lindamman records), staff presented three quotes for roughly 400 boxes: Paper Pig (estimated at about $2,000 using $50 per large bin), RCI (about $2,600 at $6.50 per box) and Work Services Corporation (about $4,350 at $10 per box). County staff recommended Paper Pig as the lowest‑cost option. Commissioner Pinkan moved to approve the Paper Pig quote, to be paid from Department 409 with auditor‑determined lines and an allowance up to 10% (cap $2,200); the motion carried unanimously.
After a closed session, the court returned to open session and accepted a Centrio fiber installation and renewal quote in the amount of $7,248 to be paid from Department 412; that motion passed 5–0.
Why this matters: The records‑destruction decision addresses long‑standing backlog and retention compliance; the fiber purchase supports county IT infrastructure. The financial approvals also clear payroll and accounts payable to keep county operations funded.
What was not decided: Item 7 (Enterprise interim interest) was deferred for commissioners to coordinate further with the vendor and county staff before action.
