County staff and commissioners provided an update on the CR 25/184 road project: responses from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) arrived later than expected, prompting a roughly one-week schedule shift and a projected bid opening about four weeks after CDOT feedback, moving the anticipated bid window into mid-April.
The county attorney reported several upcoming court events: a status-setting conference in the Leaf Properties case set for Thursday the 19th at 1:30 p.m. at the Montezuma County Combined Courts (courtroom 2, Judge PL), an unemployment appeal hearing and a contempt matter in the Ironwood case in early April. He also said two appellants in pending appeals were granted one-week extensions for opening briefs.
Commissioners reviewed personnel and regional governance topics: recruitment for a Southwest manager is underway with interviews planned later in March; Colorado Counties Incorporated sessions raised bills that could affect water policy, and one commissioner noted that Senate Bill 26097 had been withdrawn from consideration. The board recapped a "coffee with the county" public meeting on wildfire planning and scheduled a follow-up public meeting March 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the boardroom.
Road and Bridge will deploy traffic cameras to collect vehicle counts to guide dust-abatement decisions (magnesium chloride), starting with higher-traffic areas such as Cortez and using air-quality vehicle thresholds from the Public Health and Environment Air Quality Commission to prioritize treatments.
