District says faith-leaders breakfast generated partnership momentum

Milwaukee Public Schools administrators briefed the Family and Community Engagement Committee on an inaugural faith-based community partnership breakfast held earlier in February and described next steps to convert that momentum into school-level support.
"Leaders shared a strong interest in partnering with schools to support students and families," Brian Litzy, chief for families, communities and partnerships, told the committee. He said potential supports included mentoring, volunteer coordination, attendance initiatives and material drives, and that more organizations will be added to the district's community newsletter distribution.
Superintendent Brenda Castellia said the convening brought more than 80 representatives from churches, mosques, synagogues, nonprofits and public officials and that staff will follow up with engagement sessions and a future convening in 2027. Board members asked administration to compile a list of organizations that registered or attended (names of groups rather than individuals) so the board can review current faith-based partners and coordinate outreach.
Litzy said the district will work to connect faith leaders with schools near their congregations and to provide follow-up opportunities for mentoring and volunteer support. No formal action was taken; staff described the item as informational and said they would bring partner inventory information back to the committee on request.
