Middlesex County commissioners approved a consent agenda covering resolutions 26-268 through 26-334, with several items removed for separate consideration and subsequent roll-call approval.
During public comment, Charlie Kraville, an editor who said he lives on Sedam Street in New Brunswick, questioned details on two agenda items near the top of page three: a facility-management agreement for a proposed multipurpose stadium complex and a separate professional-services agreement for special counsel related to tenant negotiations.
Kraville said he wanted clarification on the facility manager's scope and selection process, asking whether the operator was selected through public bidding. County staff replied the vendor was procured through a national cooperative purchasing agreement and that the contract covers operation of the campus, including fields and an on-site restaurant.
Staff described the facility-management contract as a 10-year agreement with a fixed annual payment reported as $330,000 per year and with termination rights available to the county. The county also described the special-counsel contract as an annual professional‑services engagement paid on an hourly basis to support tenant negotiations and related matters.
Why it matters: Contracts for major public venues can affect operating costs for taxpayers and determine how the facility will be run. Kraville’s questions sought transparency on procurement, contract length and compensation; staff provided procurement and payment-format answers at the meeting.
Next steps: Resolutions on the consent agenda and the separately considered items were approved by roll call at the meeting. Additional contract documents and procurement records would be available through the clerk’s office or procurement office per county rules, if members of the public request them.
