The La Verne City Council unanimously approved an updated strategic plan and an edited mission statement on July 7, endorsing four top priorities staff said will guide budgeting and work plans for the next three to five years.
Assistant City Manager Reynolds summarized the consultant‑facilitated May session that pulled together council, staff and community survey inputs to produce a set of strategic priorities: (1) financial stability and a structurally balanced budget; (2) stakeholder engagement; (3) adaptive public safety; and (4) resilient infrastructure. “The city of La Verne strives to maintain a full range of efficient municipal services while promoting financial sustainability and adaptability,” Reynolds read as the proposed mission statement.
Public commenters urged explicit preservation language for the city’s history and asked for transparency on costs. City Manager Domer confirmed the consultant contract totaled $8,500 and said staff plan to make the strategic planning session an annual check‑in timed to the budget process.
Council members discussed fiscal constraints but emphasized the need to set priorities and to use the plan as a living document that staff will revisit while preparing budget recommendations. The council voted 5‑0 to adopt the meeting notes from May 17, the strategic priorities and the updated mission statement.
Staff said the next steps include detailing deliverables, aligning workplans and returning to council with measurable objectives and timelines tied to the adopted priorities.
