The North Newton School Corp. board voted at its Jan. 26 special meeting to appoint Tony Brooks as the junior/senior high school principal, with the hire effective July 1.
Mr. Razer presented the recommendation, saying, "it is our recommendation that Mr. Tony Brooks becomes the Junior Senior High School Principal of North Newton Junior Senior High," and noted Brooks has been assistant principal for the past three years and has "an over decade-long career in South Bend." Board members praised promoting from within and discussed the candidate pool.
The board clarified implementation details: the effective date for the principalship was set as July 1 so that incumbent Katherine will remain through June 30. Board members described a shadowing and transition plan to begin after the hire is official, and the administration said it would post the assistant principal opening internally for a 30-day period before considering external candidates.
