La Verne — The City Council adopted a slate of committee and liaison assignments for the 2025–2026 term and received public comment regarding a neighborhood safety concern.
Councilmembers reviewed a list of roughly 20–30 appointments — covering infrastructure, finance, parks and recreation, Fairplex, transit, mosquito/vector control and other regional boards — and recorded preferences before voting to approve the assignments by a 5–0 vote. Staff noted some commission terms had technically expired during a reorganization and explained the shift to a district‑based appointment process; members also asked staff to ensure the city’s online application forms and committee descriptions are consistent.
During general public comment a resident said a neighbor arrested for sexual‑offender‑related charges had returned to the neighborhood after release. Chief Gonzalez (La Verne Police Department) said detectives made the arrest based on their investigation, the subject was released under zero‑bail policies, and detectives filed a case for failing to register. Chief Gonzalez told council the matter is pending in court, that the department has verified registration information, and that staff expect the case to move through the courts within about 60 days.
Staff follow‑up: The city manager and staff said they will review the city website to fix inconsistent application links and ensure committee descriptions match the current structure. The council also requested continued outreach so vacancies and meeting times are clearly posted for applicants.
