La Verne — Public commenters at the Dec. 1 meeting urged the council to resolve long‑standing mobile coverage failures in northern La Verne and to finish unfinished road repairs on Golden Hills; staff provided an update and the council asked staff to agendaize follow-up.
Multiple residents described prolonged mobile and cell dead zones after last year’s fires and said prior promises to trench fiber or otherwise fix coverage have not been implemented. The city noted an earlier agreement with Crown Castle for rapid‑connect fiber build‑out but explained carrier colocation requirements have delayed construction. Staff offered to estimate CIP costs to run the fiber if carriers will not colocate equipment and suggested the council consider agendaizing outreach to carriers and alternatives such as satellite services.
Residents also criticized the Golden Hills slurry‑seal and resurfacing work as incomplete and unstriped. City consultant Cody Howling said wet weather delayed final striping; the slurry seal is complete and staff expected to start striping later in the week (staff indicated the contractor planned work on the coming Friday), with remaining punch‑list items to follow.
Councilmembers asked staff to bring the fiber/small‑cell status back to council in January and to examine short‑term safety fixes such as additional signage or targeted striping where sight lines create hazards. The city encouraged residents to continue reporting coverage issues to carriers (staff said carrier demand often drives build‑out priorities).
