Adams Central board sets tuition-transfer deadlines, accepts donations and reviews budget calendar

At its March meeting, the Adams Central Community Schools board added firm application deadlines for tuition transfers: June 1, 2026 for students seeking enrollment for the first semester of the 2026-27 school year and Nov. 1, 2026 for students seeking entry in January 2027, according to Superintendent Don McCclary. "We're recommending the date of June 1, which would be June 1, 2026 for a student that is wanting to enroll for first semester beginning in August of next year," he said, adding that administrators may evaluate exceptions for families who move into the district mid-cycle.
The board accepted multiple donations on the consent agenda: elementary book donations (including from Mrs. Huter and the Adams County Soil and Water Conservation District) and a gift card donation from Thriving Financial to support a student-run Jet Cart behavior-reward initiative. Administrators described the Jet Cart as a fifth-grade program where students earn points to purchase items.
The board also accepted training and safety grants: an accelerated resolution therapy training grant for elementary guidance counselors from the Adams County Foundation and an FFA "Farming First Aid Kit" grant from Lead Forward, intended to assemble first-aid kits for local farm equipment safety. Administrators said distribution plans are being developed.
On policy and planning, administration presented a draft combined calendar for 2027 budget and collective bargaining activities (first read) and recommended two new trade/career-technical textbooks for construction and welding courses to support certification opportunities. The board formally approved an out-of-state swim competition trip to IUPUI and approved routine personnel recommendations (a temporary wage increase and a long-term maternity substitute).
Superintendent McCclary told members the district received a waiver day for storm-related missed days and recommended holding May 29 as the last day of school, with synchronous learning available to avoid extending the school year unless multiple days are missed; details will be finalized on the district website.
