Committee explores district‑run Central–South shuttle to restore access to electives
Summary
Staff proposed operating district vehicles as a low‑cost shuttle between South and Central so South students can take electives at Central (orchestra, Latin, AP Seminar); committee discussed scheduling, communication and piloting the service this year with broader outreach next fall.

District staff told the finance and facilities committee the district can likely operate an internal shuttle service to move students between South and Central so those at South can access elective offerings now based at Central.
Josh Stevenson said the district has vehicles and could staff routes internally at lower cost than contracting external shuttles. The committee discussed schedule options (staggered start times, which periods to use), wraparound logistics (how students get back to buses/home), and communications to ensure families and counselors know the opportunity exists.
Members raised concerns that low initial course selection numbers may reflect lack of awareness rather than lack of interest; staff indicated students can still change course selections with counselors and that the program could be piloted before expanding. The committee asked assistant principals of operations to work out period‑level logistics and report back.
