Adams County supervisors accepted the sheriff’s 2025 annual report and heard routine updates from county offices at the committee meeting.
The sheriff highlighted operational and public-safety figures from 2025, saying patrol logged "741,000 miles," court security screened about "43,000 people" and the agency prevented 341 potentially dangerous items from entering the courthouse. The sheriff reported 381 crashes in the year with one fatality and 135 injuries and described that the five-year average on fatalities has dropped compared with prior years. He also said the department’s public-facing app saw weekly interactions increase to more than 125,000 in 2026 and that Facebook activity reached millions of views.
Supervisors praised the report and the sheriff’s public information efforts. The chair called for a motion to accept the sheriff’s annual report; the motion was moved and seconded and accepted by voice vote.
The committee also received reports from the Clerk of Courts and the circuit court. The clerk noted April 2026 filings for one state-patrol related category were 22 — identical to April 2025 — and said she will include a data-integrity table in future reports to show case numbers and filing dates when year-to-year numbers match. The clerk flagged a rise in small claims filings: 66 in April 2026 versus 35 in April 2025, and said revenues and expenditures were "usual and customary."
The child support representative (referred to in the discussion as Janet) reported that performance measures are strong, highlighted a successful "reality day" event and said staff will present a teenage pregnancy prevention program in four high school classes. She told the committee the office will share a full-time administrative support position with the Department of Health and Human Services to reduce costs and improve cross-department support.
Emergency management reported on recent weather incidents, including a record early-season heavy snow event, an April wind and ice storm and severe April flooding that generated FEMA interest; the county fell below FEMA's threshold for public assistance but staff are assisting municipalities with state disaster-fund applications pending FEMA assessments.
Before adjourning, members set a standing meeting time (the second Wednesday of every month at 3:00 p.m. during a construction period, reverting to 9:00 a.m. afterward), and scheduled a jail tour to follow a future meeting. The committee handled routine approvals (agenda and minutes) and adjourned by motion.
