HCWDB staff report promotions, potential state sanctions and truck-driving training talks

At the Jan. 30 meeting of the Humboldt County Workforce Development Board staff announced personnel changes and discussed program and performance issues.
Staff reported that Logan Ashworth was promoted to Economic Development Coordinator and Peggy Murphy was promoted to Economic Development Director. The staff update also said state performance numbers currently look poor following a transition of job center services; staff told the board the state is aware of the transition and has provided follow-up guidance, and that sanctions are a possibility.
Staff updated members on ongoing discussions about a truck-driving program in partnership with CalTrans and potential co-sponsorship with Jiffy Trucking School to co-sponsor students. Member Amber Cavanaugh suggested establishing a closed cohort through College of the Redwoods to help support funding and targeted enrollment.
Chair Dennis Leonardi said he is interested in inviting the new Cal Poly Humboldt president to a future Executive Committee meeting. Members also requested future agenda items including a modification naming Changing Tides Family Services, a CoAd discussion on community disaster response, an invitation for Supervisor Michelle Bushnell to apply for the timber business seat, and a CLEO update on the McKinleyville ordinance at the next full board meeting.
