Veteran services report: Adams County staff logged hundreds of contacts, plan local outreach

Terry, veteran services staff for Adams County, gave a March–April activity report and described local outreach and training efforts.
Terry reported "a total of 173 client appointments, walk ins, 29 outreaches, health and welfare checks, 835 phone calls, 862 emails, 314 VA team messages, and 23 faxes" in the two-month period, and listed trainings including VA move training, TBI training and regional CTVSO meetings. He said the office coordinated with Gundersen social workers and participated in a Board of Veteran Appeals video conference with the American Legion.
Discussing outreach, Terry said the rural military and family coalition meetings are typically one hour and are organizing a larger event he hopes to host locally at the Adams County ADRC; he said the tentative date is Sept. 29 and that he will notify supervisors when details are finalized. "I've invited more people for the next one, which I've actually scheduled here in Adams at our ADRC," Terry said.
On homelessness, Terry described a persistent local case: "We still have a homeless vet, and he is choosing to stay homeless." He outlined multiple prior interventions, including placement in a WDVA program and a donated car from a previous assistant, and said county staff cannot force participation in voluntary programs.
Terry also clarified he is not the county VSO (Veteran Service Officer) and said recruitment for that position is ongoing. The board thanked Terry for the report and encouraged continued outreach and interagency coordination.
