District leaders presented the LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan) midyear update on Feb. 11, reporting measurable progress across multiple goals while noting ongoing work and community engagement needs.
Doctor Kelson introduced the midyear presentation and emphasized the extent of community input: the district reported 1,514 family/staff survey responses and 11,840 student responses embedded in the LCAP climate survey.
Administrators highlighted several data points: roughly 349 reclassifications of English learners were recorded last year, with about 205 reclassifications to date this year; chronic absenteeism is down (midyear figures cited around 21% for the metric used); and expulsions were reported at nine for the midyear snapshot — a sharp decline from about 107 two years earlier. District staff said the declines in suspensions and expulsions follow a multi-year culture shift emphasizing interventions, MTSS and wellness supports rather than exclusionary discipline.
The presentation also reviewed Goal 2 (rigorous coursework, CTE expansion and college/career indicators) and Goal 3 (MTSS, wellness and community schools). Staff noted work-based learning, CTE completions and apprenticeship approvals as items of progress, and flagged that many supports are funded through grants and one-time allocations.
Trustees asked for follow-up reports with implementation details. The district agreed to provide additional data in April on special education paraprofessional deployment and caseloads and committed to continuing LCAP community engagement, publicizing meetings and offering materials in multiple languages.
Administrators said they will return with the final second interim and the budget-stabilization plan in March, including the LCAP-aligned expenditure plan for 2026–27.
