Committee to take up OPR bill after receiving text; Representative Nent to brief panel

The Senate Committee on Government Operations on March 17 said it will begin review of an OPR bill once the committee has the bill in hand and an assigned number. The committee had not received the bill by the time of the meeting, so it appeared on the agenda without a bill number.
Committee members heard that Representative Kate Nent, the bill reporter, had briefed staff on the bill's contents. According to the committee record, "what I understand is there are no new fees, but there are some other changes that [the] Secretary of State's office wanted to enact," the record states, citing Representative Nent's description.
Committee staff said they will schedule a walkthrough with Representative Nent and begin taking testimony after the bill is assigned a number. The committee also noted a related county and regional governance study committee item expected to be discussed soon; members said they will add the items to upcoming agendas as the bills clear crossover from the other body.
No formal votes were taken on the OPR matter at the March 17 meeting. The committee expects to assign a bill number and hold a hearing or walkthrough in short order, pending receipt of the bill text.
