MARTA staff briefed the council on the agency’s systemwide NextGen bus network redesign, local station construction and a new on‑demand service called MARTA Reach. The presentation noted frequency improvements on several routes serving East Point and described the launch of MARTA Reach (complimentary rides through May 2 during rollout).
MARTA also outlined fare‑system changes (BetterBreeze taps and new card transfer procedures beginning in May) and public‑safety staffing increases including more field protective services officers and an app to report safety concerns. Council members asked about maintenance at East Point Station, shelter placement, outreach to impacted riders, and station crime statistics; MARTA agreed to provide East Point‑specific ridership and station crime figures and to supply communications toolkits for council to share with constituents.
MARTA staff said some stops were moved into a consolidated network and that outreach (signs, QR codes, pop‑ups and targeted staff engagement) began April 18; they encouraged riders to report issues while the network and Reach service are refined.
Next steps: MARTA to provide written station‑level crime and ridership data, share a communications toolkit for impacted stops and continue community outreach during the rollout.
