Kuna board awards Reed Elementary roof contract and approves $67,800 membrane upgrade

Assistant Superintendent Bridal Graves presented the Reed Elementary roof replacement project and the bid results, saying sealed bids were opened April 17 and four responsive bids were received. She told trustees that E and H Quality Construction was the lowest responsive bidder at $382,000 and that LKV and Musgrove Engineering prepared the bid package and will oversee the project.
"We opened sealed bids. We have 4 responsive bids... E E and H Quality Construction was the lowest responsive bid," Graves said, and noted the district’s architect and engineering partners will manage the contract compliance.
After awarding the contract, Graves offered an optional upgrade to the roofing membrane: moving from a 60‑mil TPO to an 80‑mil TPO for an additional $67,800, which she said would extend the membrane warranty from 20 to 30 years and include a puncture guarantee for a limited duration. Board members discussed the cost versus longevity, with one trustee calling the extra 10 warranty years "substantial." Trustee 5 moved to accept the change order and the motion passed.
The board approved the main contract and the change order by voice vote. Graves said the district’s partners will manage insurance, bonding and responsiveness checks and that change orders can be used if omissions appear during construction.
Next steps include contract execution and project oversight by the district’s engineering partners; staff indicated work had not yet started at the time of the vote.
