When the nomination was read into the record, Alderman Santiago moved to table the appointment "due to pending legal litigations and reviews." The council voted to table the item by roll call, with 9 members in favor of tabling and 4 opposed. The chair announced the motion carried.
Supporters said Vaughn brings community experience and service (the resolution notes he is a U.S. Marine veteran, a constable and a Ward 2 resident). Opponents and at least one alderman asked for additional legal review of the prior appointment process and charter compliance before a vote is taken.
