The Board adopted comprehensive school safety plans for 21 Oxnard schools and approved a set of policy updates that include a district response to immigration enforcement (SB 98) and revisions to campus security, dress and grooming, employee safety and criminal records-check regulations.
Joey Nocero (district safety lead) told trustees site teams and school resource officers developed plans tailored to each campus’s ingress/egress patterns, traffic flow and emergency procedures. He noted the public-facing plan excludes detailed appendices (for example, lockdown protocols and evacuation maps) but that those appendices are included in board materials and maintained internally for response planning.
Trustees discussed communications to families about policies with potential community sensitivity — for example, dress-code limits tied to gang-related apparel — and requested materials and webinars for parents. The board also approved the required SB 98 policy and staff said a handbook and family webinar would be produced once the policy was on the books.
Other policy adoptions included updated mental-health referral regulations, a workplace-violence prevention alignment with SB 553, and changes to employee criminal-record check practices removing questions about off-duty cannabis use that state law now protects. Trustees recorded roll-call votes for each item and staff committed to put guidance and training resources on the district website.
