District celebrates return of sixth‑grade camp and recognizes donors and volunteers

The Lemon Grove School District used part of its March 10 meeting to recognize community partners and to recap the district’s restored sixth‑grade camp program.
Superintendent Vincent and school leaders acknowledged North San Diego Business Chamber and SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union for donations supporting the water‑bottle refilling initiative and accepted 720 book donations from Kaiser Permanente for distribution across eight schools.
Ed Services director Arlene Parra and teacher and chaperone Josie Peterson summarized the district’s Kuyamaca Outdoor School experience: 265 sixth graders attended this year, supported by PTA fundraising, teacher chaperones, social workers and site leaders. Teachers described outdoor learning, hikes, cabin activities and social-emotional growth; staff said planning is underway to repeat and expand the program for 2026–27.
Trustees praised staff and volunteers for organizing the effort and suggested additional fundraising outreach at community events to support future camps.
