At its March 10 meeting the Lemon Grove School District board approved several facilities contracts to be completed during spring break and the summer months to reduce disruption to instructional time.
Director Tianna Barton presented three separate awards: roofing contracts for multiple school sites (recommended to three contractors to meet schedule constraints), an asphalt pavement contract to JAX Paving for San Altos, Mount Vernon Dual Immersion and Lemon Grove Academy Elementary, and an exterior painting contract for Vista La Mesa Academy and San Miguel Elementary recommended to Optimus Construction. Barton said awarding roofing work to multiple contractors speeds completion across three large sites; paving work was awarded to the lowest responsive bidder per public contract code, and the painting award was recommended because the lower bid covered only one site while Optimus covered both.
Trustees questioned timelines, warranty coverage and mural preservation. Barton said facilities projects will be coordinated through the facilities master plan to avoid overlapping projects, warranties are considered in bid evaluation and staff will protect murals during painting work. The board approved all contracts by voice vote. Work is expected to occur over spring break and the summer, with staff performing standard contractor walk-throughs and checklists to ensure satisfactory completion.
