Staff said the proposed changes are intended to codify existing district practices and strengthen protections for students.
When asked about language referencing social media, staff clarified the section is specific to vetting third‑party programs that might collect social‑media information. A district presenter said the board does not currently have “a contract with any third party to do this,” and that the policy language reflects an updated Education Code requirement to ensure appropriate vetting if such tools were considered in the future.
President Tanya Krafchak asked whether the item could return on consent; staff indicated the proposed policies are scheduled for return and anticipated action on Feb. 24, 2026. The board did not take action at this meeting.
