Parents tell La Mesa-Spring Valley board they lack communication and supports at campus

Multiple parents raised concerns during the public-comment period at the La Mesa-Spring Valley board meeting, urging the district to address communication gaps and supports at several elementary campuses.
Alexandra Seriano, who identified herself as a concerned parent at Vancraftoft Elementary, said communication deteriorated after a staff departure and described a missing PTA, unused community garden funds and a postponed spring open house. "I no longer have confidence in approaching our admin," Seriano said, asking the board to intervene and improve access to clinical paperwork and family notifications. She also said parental campus visits had been limited to 24-hour notice with approval.
Christian Munoz (introduced as a Spring Valley parent) described ongoing challenges for his neurodivergent daughter, saying the school had been "dismissive" and that volunteer access and transparency had been curtailed. He said his daughter is "neurode divergent, epileptic," and said an incident in March led to a seizure after a safety incident on campus.
Board members did not respond directly during public comment but later acknowledged the theme of communication and said concerns would be referred to appropriate staff for follow-up. The board chair reminded speakers that questions or requests for responses will be routed to staff after the meeting and that public commenters should provide contact information on the comment card if they seek follow-up.
