Staff acknowledged some interim measures were the best available but not perfectly predictive and said they are piloting additional tools and reviewing correlation studies with vendors.
Trustees and staff discussed specific assessment instruments: Renaissance (DNA) was described as a useful standards-aligned indicator for some grade-level skills, while AzELLA (language proficiency) measures multiple language domains and may show different patterns. Staff recommended trustees focus questions on the strategies implemented at school level and on short-term indicators that will reveal whether an intervention is taking hold before final tests.
Trustees agreed to refine upcoming monitoring materials: produce one-page summaries tied to specific goals, name which strategies were changed or scaled at which school sites, and indicate which interim indicators are expected to move first. The board did not take any formal vote but directed staff to prepare clearer, measure-linked materials for the next monitoring cycle.
Next steps: staff will continue piloting assessment alignment studies and return with clarified interim-measure descriptions and brief, community-ready monitoring summaries.
