A resident speaking during open forum told the Otsego City Council on May 11 that property-tax valuations are rising in Wright County and recommended residents contact their assessor if they disagree with valuations.
“My brother-in-law and sister that live on Pulaski, and their taxes went up 28%,” the resident, Jenny, said, describing a local example of a substantial assessment increase. She cautioned that developers are buying lakeshore property and converting homes into short-term rentals, and warned of sales of manufactured-home parks that can drive up lot rents and threaten long-term affordability.
Jenny said Otsego’s net percent change in assessed value was relatively low compared with other cities but that countywide growth and rezoning pressures along major corridors are increasing. She also praised recent state action on homeowners’ association rules, saying an HOA-related bill restored homeowners’ rights.
Council members and staff asked follow-up questions about county growth and daycare capacity; one councilmember noted reports showing Wright County among the fastest-growing counties in the state and the need for childcare capacity as a factor in attracting employers.
The council did not take formal action on the comments; the presentation was entered into the public record.
