The Sports and Events Corporation told the Hamilton County budget committee it is seeking more resources to expand sports tourism and the number of hosted events, arguing that bringing visitors to the county generates new overnight stays and revenue. Tim Morgan, president of the Sports and Events Corporation, described the organization as a businesslike effort to “drive ROI” and said the group projects hosting and supporting scores of events in the coming year.
Morgan laid out the commission’s fiscal-year objectives and said personnel, operations and event investment make up the request; he described a current operating figure (about $980,000) and signaled the need for more staff and event investment as the portfolio grows. “It is all about driving ROI, bringing money earned outside of Hamilton County and getting it spent inside of Hamilton County,” Morgan said.
During questions, commissioners sought detail on large changes in salary and contract lines and whether the organization had coordinated applications with the city. Morgan said some line items were timing and formatting differences between CARTA submissions and the county’s budget form and that he would return with a detailed breakdown, and he acknowledged outreach to city partners was underway but not fully aligned with prior deadlines.
No formal vote was taken; the presentation concluded with the committee asking for follow-up documentation and clarification on several budget lines.
