During public comment Susie Powell Rutherford, event lead for Relay for Life of Sanonita Park, told the council that Temple City’s relay has joined a regional Relay for Life event serving Temple City, Arcadia, Monrovia and Duarte on Sept. 6–7, a free 24‑hour event at the racetrack in Sanonita Park, and invited cancer survivors to be honored at the ceremony.
Later in the meeting the city manager said the Live Oak Park playground will have an official opening at 9:00 a.m. Saturday. Staff said the site has passed safety checks though minor finishing work and sign fabrication remain. The manager and council also highlighted the summer concert series and a Chamber of Commerce summer‑nights event along Lost Tustin that will spotlight local restaurants.
Officials encouraged residents to attend the playground opening and summer events and to look for flyers and registration details for Relay for Life at upcoming city events.
