Temple City honors AYSO Region 98 boys and girls champions

Temple City Council honored two local youth soccer teams on Sept. 2, recognizing the Temple City Titans (Region 98 boys 13U) and the Region 98 girls 14U team for winning their divisions at the 2025 AYSO National Games in Irvine.
Mayor Sternquist presented certificates to players and coaches and invited the teams for group photos. Council members applauded the athletes’ undefeated runs: the boys team played seven matches, scored 19 goals and conceded none; the girls team also won seven consecutive games, the council said.
“The championship highlights the talent and resilience of these young athletes and reflects the strong support of their families and volunteers,” Mayor Sternquist said as players were called forward to receive certificates. The council acknowledged coaches and assistant coaches by name during the presentation and took a group photo afterward.
The recognition was ceremonial; no policy action or funding decision accompanied the presentation. The council encouraged families and community members to continue supporting youth sports and volunteering with AYSO Region 98.
The ceremony was followed by the regular agenda’s business items.
