Becky Harrison, a Temple City resident, told the council on Feb. 3 that routine city leaf blowing near mixed-use blocks begins around 6:00 a.m. and repeatedly disturbs nearby residents. "Leaf blowers are loud and at 6:00 a.m. they wake people up," she said during public comment, asking the city to shift the work later in the morning.
Council members and city staff responded that they would address the concern. A councilmember said, "We can work with staff to adjust that time frame," and city manager Brian Cook said he would talk to staff the next day and try to implement a change that would move non-emergency maintenance to after 7:00 a.m. in mixed-use areas. The resident said the work had stopped in January but resumed the morning of the meeting, and council members acknowledged they would follow up.
The council did not adopt an ordinance or amend the municipal code during the meeting; the discussion resulted in a staff follow-up direction to consider changing the schedule for routine maintenance in mixed-use areas and report back.
