Glendora Unified appoints assistant principal at Sandberg Middle, honors CIF champions and accepts $36,000 STEAM donation

The board reported that Kristen Jelson has been appointed assistant principal of Sandberg Middle School, effective July 21, 2025, and will be placed on step four of the district—s certified management salary schedule. Staff said Jelson rose to the top of a competitive pool—47 applicants with 12 interviewed—after a panel that included staff and parents.
The board also recognized Glendora High School—s CIF Division III baseball champions and congratulated Coach Jerry Llewellyn, who the meeting noted was named regional and CIF Coach of the Year. Principal Jamie Nurell and many student-athletes were brought forward for certificates and applause.
Daniel Boyer, president of the Glendora Education Foundation, presented a $36,000 check to the district to fund STEAM summer training: "We raised over $150,000 that evening," Boyer said, and the foundation—s paddle-raise exceeded its $26,000 goal and ultimately funded training for about 30 teachers.
Why it matters: The appointment addresses district site leadership staffing ahead of the school year; the foundation contribution funds teacher professional development for new STEAM labs, which supports planned classroom programs.
