John Glenn students update Savannah R-III board; teacher Anita Combmes honored

John Glenn Elementary student leaders described school projects, volunteer work and fundraisers during the Savannah R-III Board of Education meeting.
"My name is Alexis. Our student leadership group is made up of fourth and fifth grade students at John [Glenn Elementary]. We are leaders in the school who strive to make a positive school community," a student said, introducing the group's activities. Students detailed last year’s landscaping project, an October fundraiser that raised $548, plans for a family ornament-making night on Dec. 15, and volunteer work with Second Harvest Food Bank.
Miss Holt, the John Glenn principal, introduced the student group and then nominated Anita Combmes for board recognition. "Anita truly embodies teamwork, commitment, and heart in everything she does," Miss Holt said as the board acknowledged Combmes for her work supporting students and colleagues in special education.
Board members asked students for leadership advice and praised their community involvement. The presentation closed with board applause and recognition of the teacher and student work.
The board meeting continued to other agenda items after the recognitions.
