Marlington board gets updates on completed summer projects, auditorium HVAC and classroom renovations

The Marlington Local School District board received a detailed update on summer facilities work at its Aug. 15 work session, including completed roof replacements, a renovated softball dugout, resurfaced tennis courts and ongoing interior renovations for Career Tech classrooms.
Presenter Dan walked the board through before-and-after photos and progress reports, saying the roof project is complete and that the dugout and tennis courts had received positive community feedback. Dan described the Career Tech classroom job as “major work and progress,” with drywall, lighting and a new glass slider door installed and floor trenching completed; furniture and equipment are due when the floor is finished.
On the auditorium HVAC, Bob, the district treasurer, told the board the two rooftop units had been installed but required higher-voltage service than anticipated. He said contractors recommended a 200-amp subpanel and additional wiring; the immediate electrical work was estimated at roughly $7,000 in extra labor and materials, contributing to a final AC project cost of about $97,000–$98,000. Board members discussed whether to spec a 400-amp feed for future gymnasium expansion; Bob said a 400-amp unit can require a 50–60 day lead time.
Other small but safety-focused projects included removal of underground gas tanks, abatement and drop-ceiling work at Lexington, concrete and drainage repairs at Washington Elementary and other campuses, and new lighting poles and speed-bump installations in parking and athletic areas.
Dan invited board members to visit completed sites after the meeting and said the district expects to be roughly 90–94% complete on outside work by the first day of school, with contingency classroom plans if any space is not finished on time.
The board approved routine project items and discussed next steps for phase-two lighting and traffic-calming features. The meeting packet included exhibits and photographs of the completed and in-progress work.
What’s next: the board will monitor final punch-list items, inspect the Career Tech classroom once flooring and equipment are installed, and consider future electrical upgrades if larger gym or auditorium power demands materialize.
