Law director introduces attendance and weed/litter ordinances; council leaves them on the table for public input

The St. Bernard Village Council heard from Law Director Miss Van Venberg on two proposed ordinances: Ordinance No. 19 would amend section 121.0 of the codified ordinances concerning council members' attendance and potential salary reduction or vacation of office, and Ordinance No. 20 would amend section 905.03 on weed and litter removal.
Miss Van Venberg told council that Ordinance No. 20 incorporates lists from the Ohio Administrative Code defining prohibited noxious weeds and invasive plant species and that committee members discussed adjusting the definition of "excessive height" from 10 inches to 8 inches. Because the committee sought resident input on that detail, the law director did not request emergency passage and recommended the ordinance follow the regular course so the public has time to review and comment.
At the Laws, Contracts and Claims committee meeting, members also discussed short- and long-term rental rules and asked the law director to make changes for further consideration. Committee chair Mr. Schmeer asked whether an appeal process could be added to the weed-cost recovery portion of the ordinance; Miss Van Venberg said she would draft language and circulate it before the next meeting.
Council moved, on a motion by Mr. Schar seconded by Mr. Morton, to place Ordinances 19 and 20 on the table for next meeting consideration; the motion carried by voice vote. Both ordinances will return at the next council meeting for formal consideration and potential public comment.
