Phillips said designated communities are encouraged to form a working group composed of one to two municipal representatives plus civic partners to plan activities tied to the 250th anniversary. He described the designation as a flexible program with few state-imposed restrictions: once a community secures designation, the state supplies guidance and modest support but generally allows the local team to choose programming.
Council members asked about application mechanics and grant requirements. One council member reported that a date printed on the program website was a misprint; the correct application/grant cycle closes Jan. 31, 2025, the member said after contacting program staff. The committee recommended the village clerk begin the online registration before the deadline and suggested Phillips serve as a municipal representative on the local working group.
