SEI Design Group details completed and planned 2024 capital projects for Scotia‑Glenville schools

At Glen/Dal the presenter said floor‑tile abatement was done over winter break; remaining interior finish work and finish‑floor installation have been scheduled for an upcoming break. Sakandaga classrooms received new ceiling grids and lighting, which the presenter said has noticeably increased classroom light levels. At the high school the dark room was removed and the space refinished; the sewer line replacement is at about 90% complete.
Looking ahead, SEI outlined projects slated for the spring and summer construction period: resurfacing the track, completing multiple secure vestibules (including vestibule storefronts and panic‑hardware door releases), D‑wing door replacements, main‑office mechanical upgrades and a grease trap near the auditorium public entrance. The middle school will receive a plug‑and‑play rooftop unit (structural work completed under a prior project) and toilet‑room renovations on the first and second floors. SEI also said corridor ceilings and lighting replacements are planned for both first and second floors at Sakandaga and that an obsolete mechanical room will be repurposed as a storage space.
SEI presented two capital‑outlay projects by year: a 2025–26 package (new basketball hoops and gym padding in the large gym) and a 2026–27 package that would install a 4‑foot high black chain‑link fence around rear play areas and courts. The fence design shown would run roughly parallel to Bolt Road, include two 10‑foot maintenance double gates and pedestrian gates at either end to preserve public access. The presenter said the district27s scaled survey shows about 1,370 linear feet for the fence route.
On procurement and timing, SEI said SED (the State Education Department) approval for the 2026–27 cap‑outlay fence project will follow the district27s budget vote in May; if the budget proposition passes, SED review and procurement would then proceed.
Board members asked for community‑facing materials; one board member asked whether the fence design could be shared with the public and the presenter agreed, saying the presentation would be posted.
Why it matters: several items are security and code upgrades (secure vestibules, mechanical replacements and toilet renovations) that require coordination with school calendars and, in some cases, state review. The fence project is contingent on a voter‑approved budget appropriation before SED will finalize approval and contractor procurement.
The presentation included photographs and a 3‑D/point‑cloud scan of the historic building SEI reviewed for a separate project; SEI recommended contacting architectural salvage groups if the building receives a favorable preservation determination and elements become available for salvage. SEI concluded the capital summary and invited board questions.
