Humboldt County supervisors approved a funding agreement with the state’s Transportation Safety Improvement Program (TSIP) to reimburse roughly $26,000 for flashing beacons at stop locations and chevrons on Balberine Hill.
Ben, who presented the request, said the county applied last year, reapplied in August and learned this year it was selected as a recipient. He explained funding will be available July 1 and recommended requesting pricing in May and placing orders so delivery and reimbursement occur in the same fiscal year.
Board members asked about the devices’ durability and battery life; staff said batteries typically require replacement about every six years and that some units have been damaged by weather or wildlife. After discussion, the supervisors moved and approved signing the FY2027 funding agreement.
Trish (first reference as Trish) will coordinate procurement timing and the required paperwork for reimbursement. The board recorded the motion as carried by voice vote.
