Humboldt County supervisors voted to approve a detour agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for a bridge‑deck replacement on Highway 169, scheduled for summer 2027.
Ben, a county staff member who introduced the item, told the board the state plans to replace the bridge deck “in the summer of 2027,” and described the proposed official detour routing via Chantland Blacktop, Florida Avenue/Clare Road north and back west on Highway 3. He said the state will install signs directing traffic along the official route but acknowledged local drivers may continue to use other roads.
The board discussed precautions near the high school and options to restrict local traffic on sensitive routes; members raised the prospect of temporary barricades and additional sheriff patrols to manage speed during the detour. After a motion and second, the supervisors voted to authorize signing the agreement.
Chair (first reference as Chair) noted the detour is expected to last several months, and the board did not set further changes to the DOT’s timeline at the meeting. The board did not adopt additional restrictions beyond asking staff to coordinate signage and enforcement with the sheriff’s office.
The board approved the motion by voice vote; members recorded the motion as carried.
