Durham City Council on March 2 read a proclamation declaring March 12, 2026, National Girl Scouts Day in the City of Durham, celebrating the 114th anniversary of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America and noting Girl Scouts North Carolina Coastal Pines serves 17,407 members across central and eastern North Carolina.
Several Girl Scouts from Troop 3750 addressed the council, praising the organization’s emphasis on leadership, civic engagement and STEM programming. "Happy Girl Scout Day," said Jayna of Troop 3750, thanking troop leaders and volunteers for their work in the community.
The council also recognized three GoDurham fixed‑route operators who were inducted into the agency’s Million Miler Club — an award the city said honors drivers who have logged 1 million miles without a preventable accident. The honorees were named as Tremita Springfield, Eula Michelle Bowling and Gregory Fudge; each has roughly 12 years of service.
"At GoDurham our priority number one is safety," Sean Egan, director of transportation, told the council. He praised the inductees for their dedication to safety and reliable service for Durham riders.
The recognitions were part of the meeting’s ceremonial items; no formal council action was required for the proclamations and employee acknowledgments.
