Board adopts Amplify Desmos for secondary math after multiyear pilot

The Temecula Valley Unified School District board unanimously approved the adoption of Amplify Desmos as the district’s secondary mathematics instructional materials after a yearlong pilot and review process.
Presenters said the pilot committee reduced an initial set of publishers to two and ran two nine‑week classroom pilots. Staff reported collecting more than 3,500 student evaluations and several hundred parent responses; according to the presentation, Amplify outperformed the alternative curriculum in teacher, parent and student ratings in both middle‑ and high‑school pilots. District staff outlined a training plan that includes an early training during spring break, a May 28 session and additional coaching in August to support classroom implementation without excessive teacher pull‑out time.
Board members asked several implementation questions, including how the new materials balance procedural fluency (basic skills practice) with conceptual understanding and reasoning. Presenters said the curriculum embeds opportunities for procedural practice while prioritizing reasoning and problem solving; trustees said they would monitor outcomes and consider targeted supplemental resources only after a full year of implementation.
The board voted 5–0 to adopt Amplify Desmos for middle and high school math, and staff said they will return with implementation benchmarks and training schedules to ensure a consistent rollout across sites.
