County officials told commissioners they will reroute some people needing hospital care to Hastings because the crisis center in Lincoln has been overwhelmed, a change intended to reduce the time police spend at receiving facilities.
A commissioner said the Lincoln crisis center was overwhelmed and that routing to Hastings should reduce the time patrol officers must spend for processing from several hours down to about 20–30 minutes, allowing officers to return to duty more quickly.
Commissioners also received an update from the 911 advisory committee: staff were asked to prepare the committee’s budget, and the county’s call center staffing was reported to be nearly full, an improvement from recent shortages.
Why it matters: The change in transport routing is intended to reduce officer time away from patrol and to ensure people in crisis can access timely hospital care. Improvements in 911 staffing can affect response capacity.
What’s next: Officials will continue to coordinate routing with regional partners; the 911 advisory committee will finalize its budget submission for later review.
