Marshfield highlights recruitment pathway as new recruits join Fire and EMS

Braden Peterson, one of three recruits who joined Marshfield Fire and EMS in January, said he first took a one-semester EMT class and then completed Fire I training at the Marshfield campus. “I love it. I like the medical side,” Peterson said, describing how the programs led him to pursue firefighting as a career.
The department emphasized the value of creating entry routes for younger candidates who may not have finished more extensive academic training before beginning emergency services work. Peterson said the pathway allowed him to work and continue training: he met department employees who told him the department was hiring positions that let staff work while completing paramedic training at Mid-State, and he accepted the opportunity.
Peterson described the department’s culture as supportive, saying colleagues proactively share practical knowledge. “Everyone is so helpful,” he said, adding that recruits learn on the job and from experienced personnel.
The presentation framed the hires as part of Marshfield’s ongoing investment in emergency services staffing and career development. The department did not provide additional detail on hiring schedules, total positions open, or funding sources during the segment.
